I am John McNeil and live in Adelaide, South Australia. My grandfather William McNeil and his wife Helen left Glasgow in 1892 for Mellbourne, Australia and later moved to Adelaide. My paternal ancestors trace back to Perthshire 1736 and my Ancestral DNA traces back to Mid Lorn near to Oban and Connel in the period of 1400 - 1500.
I am the president of the Clan MacNeil Association of Australia and we have near to 100 families as members.

I live in Tennessee, but my I was raised in Michigan, and my McNeill family lives in Michigan still. My Great grandfather Rupert McNeill was born in 1888 in Niagra Falls NY. He was a WW-1 vet and somehow ended up in Michigan. Rupert is buried at Arlington Natl cemetary. His father was Henry, and verylittle i known about him. It's rumoured that Henry was lynched for piracy on the grat lakes. Henry,s wife was Elizabeth.

My gg grandfather John McNeill came to New Zealand from Scotland in 1878. He was born near Loch Eck, Argyllshire and moved with family to Glen Fruin, Dunbartonshire and eventually nearby Helensburgh before leaving for NZ.
His ancestors were living on the southern shores of Loch Awe, Argyllshire in the late 1700s and into the 1800s.
Unsure where they came from before that - possibly North Knapdale and Colonsay.

My family live in South Wales, UK, and I, and other McNeils in the area, have amassed quite a detailed record of the family since Oliver Hall McNeil came to Wales in about 1810, however tracing the origin of Oliver is proving to be very difficult. Anecdotal evidence suggests that he came from Barra, and was born in about 1790. He married Ann Reese in 1811 at Saint Anne's Soho, Westminster before moving to Aberavon, South Wales.

Any information regarding the origin of Oliver would be greatly appreciated. Diolch (thanks).
